You can find your motherboard's BIOS version number on the POST screen. As soon as you see the Biostar bootup splash screen, press TAB, this will reveal the POST screen (if you don't see the splash screen at all, it is okay.
The version of BIOS you have most likely doesn't have the splash screen). After the flashing is done, reset the computer and enter CMOS setup again.
If you system is running smoothly and everything is working, why take a risk and possible corrupt your BIOS and end up with a dead machine.
There are a couple of major ones like American Megatrends, AMI, Award, or Phoenix.
Each company has their own tools for making backups of the BIOS. Do you update it often or never or once in a while?
Hi, I have an Asus P8Z77-V Pro MB and I visited the driver download page and found that there had been an update to my BIOS, so I downloaded the driver and unzipped.
It is in a format that I do not recognize and either does my operating system. Would some explain to me how I would install the CAP file to update my BIOS.
Before updating BIOS on a computer that has Bit Locker enabled, make sure you suspend Bit Locker encryption before you update the BIOS.
If Bit Locker was not suspended, the computer will not accept your Bit Locker key the next time your computer boots and the only way you can start your computer is with a recovery key. Then immediately press PAUSE/BREAK key to suspend the boot process. This time choose "Load Optimized Defaults" from the main menu. You will see a screen similar to the one below: technology for easy BIOS updating. Regardless of its extension, after downloading the BIOS file is ready to use as-is. That’s definitely a worthy reason to update the BIOS.However, if you’re not using an SSD, don’t care about the Brazilian keyboard, don’t have a Celeron or Core i3 processor and don’t plan on changing your processor, etc, etc then the update is probably not necessary. If you see there is an update for your BIOS, either through Windows or by visiting the PC manufacturers website, you can usually download an executable program that will perform the update for you. An update may include fixes that help the software work better on your machine. Now for the real question: do you need to upgrade your BIOS to the latest version?
